Reasonably regular posts, 2-3 per week with little neat things about camera’s, photoshop and other bits and pieces. They published a very good article on a neat little innovation that allows you to add WiFi capabilities to ”almost” any digital camera.

With the use of an Eye-Fi card, a normal looking 2GB SD Card all photos (not movies) on the device can be uploaded over a standard 802.11b network to a computer running the Eye-Fi Manager or directly to your photograph web site. (Flikr, Photo Bucket, Gallery, Live Spaces, etc.)

While the devices are not available in Australia, some eBay stores are willing to ship the device internationally. It works great in my wife’s camera. When she comes home, she simply turns the camera on and all the photo’s are wirelessly uploaded to our server at home.

Well Christmas has come and gone again (in fact Easter is almost upon us), as usual it was filled with friends, food and lots of fun. Amongst the traditional water bomb fights, ice cubes in clothes, Piwi-50 crashes and general drunkenness I happened to take a few photo’s of people chowing down to a great Christmas dinner.

Long and Johann both reviewed Microsoft’s Live Photo Gallery <strike>recently</strike> and I decided to see how it actually runs using my photos from Christmas. I chose the three odd shots I took of people chowing down to food and was amazed at the final picture.

When you look closely at the final picture you can see where some of the stitching took place. The other funny thing is that photo editor decided to remove several people all together.

Download the software, take a few photo’s close together, and prepare to be amazed.

I am quite impartial to the Chicken-Schnitzel burger at the local cafe near our office. One of the things I like most is the 5 min wait while the burger is made as it has not been sitting in a heater for the last 5 or so hours.

While reading the Time magazine at the top of the pile the other day I noticed a ‘MyAustralia’ photo competition being run by Time, where amateur photographers can submit interesting shots from around Australia with a small blurb about the photo.

Now apart from the fact they are giving away a pair of D-SLR camera’s each week as prizes, 12 or so of the winning photographs will be published in the 2008 Time calendar.

So if you are an amateur photographer and have an interesting photo from our beautiful country, upload it see how you go.

The problem with Digital photography is the time it takes to get a photo ready to publish. There is so much you can do to improve the look and feel of a shot. I dragged my camera down the local RiverFestival fireworks display. It’s a yearly event where three of Brisbane’s bridges are closed down and lit up with Fireworks.

Last year we were parked out at Cannon Hill and I had a few nice shots but there was a lot of flare from the fireworks and it made the photo’s all look the same and kind of boring. This year on the advice of a friend I took the shots in RAW and had much more control over the finished image.

So, after at least 8 hours of work & 3 separate programs I was able to take the 150 or so photo’s and balance, convert, touch-up, crop and resize down to 15 nice JPG images. They are all posted on my Gallery page here.

Some of my favourites

On the 28th August at about 9:00 (+10GMT) due to a specific angle between earth, the sun and the moon; parts of the pacific were treated to a red (or pink) moon for a few hours. To the amusement of my housemates, I pulled out my camera and spent about 20 min photographing the effect.

I ended up with about 20 photographs of which 1 turned out alright. The larger copy is posted on my gallery. All I need now is a D-SLR to get some really good shots, Maybe next pay.

What’s wrong with this picture??

Take a closer look

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I was thinking about emailing support@commonwealthbank.com.au a link to http://forums.microsoft.com/Communities/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1050714&SiteID=6 but decided it was more fun to take a photo and laugh.

I’m glad I don’t have money with the Commonwealth Bank. =)
