My TechEd Notes

Autor brendon | 14.09.2009 | Category Rant, TechStuff

TechEd
Well auTechEd was a blast last week. So much information and so little implementation time!!

I tried to attend most Security/ Windows Phone 6.5/ Office Communications Server /other Fun sessions. The best by far was the Mobile Smackdown which beat Dugie’s and Lilia’s demo’s ONLY because of the free swag they threw at us.

I need to record my notes somewhere and my brain has an woeful retention policy… So here they are.

Be warned, these are my raw notes from the sessions. I will go through and clean these up over time. Don’t expect them to make any sense.

Show your Nerd-iness

Autor brendon | 14.09.2009 | Category Rant

Ever wanted to show how much of a nerd you are?? Such as posting text as binary value?? Interestingly Google and Bing don’t support this as a direct conversion like units or sums.

Here is one awesome little site that does, so head over and share the “01101110011001010111001001100100” – “011010010110111001100101011100110111001100100001″

VMWare VConverter Recommendations

Autor brendon | 09.09.2009 | Category TechStuff, Virtualization

While onsite doing work for a customer in Northern Queensland  I had to migrate several hosts into an ESXi 4.0 device.

The VConverter process is reasonably simple and strait forward however it just wouldn’t import a few of the machines that was planned. In the end, one of the guys from our office suggested the following steps and URL to import the host successfully.

  • Specify LSI logic for adapter to import (windows OS) disks as SCSI devices.
  • Move each partition into a separate .vmdk file.
  • Always un-install vConverter client from source server and reboot after each attempt.
  • The URL with useful commands and configuration notes is: http://vsphere-land.com/tips-tricks/converter-tips

When deploying a CITRIX Repeater (formally known as WANScaler) using WCCP with a cisco router we found that the configuration on the KB isn’t quite right. Read on for the configuration.
