HTC Touch HD with WinMo 6.5
Autor brendon
Unfortunately, I put a golf club through the screen on my old iMate Ultimate a few months ago. I did some reading and I ended up deciding to buy a HTC Touch HD from eBay.
This is a brilliant phone that I highly recommend to anyone that likes a full screen WinMo device. It comes with Windows Mobile 6.1 with a custom UI from HTC called Touch Flow 3D which makes the device is highly usable. My problem is that HTC have announced they will not be releasing a ROM update to Windows Phone 6.5 or 7.0 for the device!
Some searching of Google showed there are a plethora of custom ROM’s available with a reasonably simple installation. I ended up choosing a cooked beta 6.5 ROM’s for the Touch HD. Read on for info on how its done.
The original Youtube video I found is here.
As the video mentions, you need to make sure you install the correct HardSPL version. The wrong one makes your screen colours funny and lock up 30 seconds after boot. Guess how I found this out.
A complete list of available ROM’s for the Blackstone (Touch HD Code name) is here. Have a look for what suits your needs and what other users have said about the software before choosing one.
The ROM I have installed and have been running for about a month is the Miri (WinMo 6.5) Premium with Manilla v26.2 from here. It works great and was very popular at TechEd.
My favourite features… Awesome calendar view, button to select GPRS or HSDPA connection, contact based thread view for SMS & email, auto-vibrate mode during calendar appointments!! Best part, no operator crap content!!!
