Repost: WMP Time Saving tip

Now I can’t take credit for this but I feel the need to pass on this great idea originally posted at Channel 10

With the increasing speeds and availability of the internet, more and more information is being recorded in audio or video format. 2 years ago, you would read the brief and look at pictures from the WinHEC Keynote. Now days you just stream it to your device.

To use time efficiently I will normally have these types of events playing on the second screen while I do other work and only focus on them when something of interest comes up. In the case of WinHEC this year, that still took 2 hours of 30% of my attention. It is possible on Windows Media Player to increase the play speed but still understand the voices. Under (Now Playing -> Enhancements -> Play Speed Settings) you are able to adjust how fast or slowly a video will play.

I agree that 1.4x is the sweet spot for time saving and still being able to comprehend what is being said. So the next time you’re listening to a very long webcast, speed it up and save yourself some time. :-)
